about

DAMIEN STEELE built a following from the ground up, renting halls, putting on concerts, and hammering out red hot, molten metal tunes, playing music that was called "the bridge between Queensryche and Fates Warning." Lead guitarist Steve Matusik and bassist/vocalist Paul Staub co-founded the band around 1982, and many musicians came and went over the years. The core line-up with Steve, Paul, drummer Ben Tomlin, vocalist Mark Hopkins, guitarist Mike Learn is the one that most people remember, the one that packed regional rock clubs in the late eighties. Despite continued interest from hometown fans in Erie, Pennsylvania, the band nearly drifted into obscurity.

In 2005 Pennsylvania based label PMM would release a CD compilation including the band’s original 1991 five-song demo tape, plus four unreleased tracks that would induce one of the best U.S power metal bands of their time to a broader audience when at the time the climate for heavy metal was at an all-time low.

The guitars work of Learn and Matusik delivers catchy riffs, beautifully synchronized duel harmonies and searing solos. Meanwhile, the rhythm section bassist Staub and drummer Tomlin create a solid and precise foundation for the band's unique progressive power metal stylings. All this complemented by the ear-splitting falsettos, and vibrato filled mid-range vocals of Hopkins.

The band would originally form in the early 1980s and make it into the coming decade. But as with many other bands in the early 1990s, DAMIEN STEELE would call it quits and all go onto other endeavours.

Track Name: I am the Doorway
I Am Doorway

I am shining, no compromising
Negative shadows I've left behind
Constant echo in my mind's eye
My subconscious is sending wide

Time shall pass us by
Search out all my dreams

My mind's the key, I am Doorway!

Star of Twilight, quest for Inner Light
Won't let time slip from my sight
I will take what's in my sight
No more watching time fly by

Time shall pass us by
Search out all my dreams
Take what's in my sight
Won't watch time fly by

My mind's the key, I am Doorway!
Track Name: On the Crest of a Dune
On the Crest of a Dune

I awake. Oh where am I?
What has happened? Is this a dream?
Wreckage burns all around me
Miles of nothing are all I see

Where do I go from here?
Right, left... which way to turn?
Static on the radio
No one will ever know

Desert of desolation calls my name
Sands of isolation crawl my way

I stare into nowhere
On the crest of a dune
Waiting for someone to save me
The sand fills in around me
I can't move, hypnotized

I'm swallowed alive
Inch by inch, minute by minute
Static on the radio
No one will ever know

Desert of desolation calls my name
Sands of isolation crawl my way
Track Name: Wasteland
Wasteland

Look toward the desolate sunrise, what do I see
A vision of white far across this sandy sea
A beacon of hope in this desert of desolation
I pray I reach the oasis... the oasis

Step by step I trudge across the open wasteland
Hoping not to find a hallucination
Reality losing me, my mind is blanking out
I must find water soon or death will search me out

Search me out I cry out "rescue me"
From this wasteland
Please don't abandon me
In this wasteland

With parched throat I sigh and cry out for the Lord
Please take me away from this world
As if struck by lightning, I fall down to my knees
Forever I'm engulfed in darkness, in darkness…
Track Name: Life After Life
Life After Life

Pain subsides as I start to rise
They say I've passed away
I see me lying below me now
Is this a dream?

Oh, can't you hear me calling you?
Oh, I'm starting to scream!

Traveling the tunnels of serenity
This is my judgment day
The comfortable light speaks to me
My mind is open for Him to read

Oh, I've left it all behind
Oh, I'm ready to die!
Yes I'm ready to go

Life after life
It's a survival of bodily death
Track Name: Shadow of Our Time
Shadow of Our Time

In the shadow of our time
We begin to understand the power at hand
Let us not be blind
We trick ourselves
Use our hearts as minds

We can't wait for disaster
We can make this darkness go away
We can't wait for disaster
It's too late to pretend

In the shadow of our time
We hear the call
Rising from the masses and yet
Still it all goes on and on
Let us start again

We can't wait for disaster
We can make this darkness go away
We can't wait for disaster
Let us start again

We have truth to make you feel
Time is running out now feel

Oh, in the shadow of our time
Oh, in the shadow of our time
Track Name: Dawn
Dawn

With the break of morning comes the sun
As a new day has just begun
I raise my hand to shield my eyes
As I look up at the bluest sky

Light from the east will find me
Always there to shine

Dawn I know will be there with each morning
And Dawn I know will be there through the darkest of nights
And when I wake up in the early light
You are there to make it right, to make it right

So through the day I walk outside
And gaze out at the bluest sky
A thousand thoughts flash through my mind
As a cotton cloud drifts across the sky

Light from the east will find me
Always there to shine

Dawn I know will be there with each morning
And dawn I know will be there through the darkest of nights
And when I wake up in the early light
You are there to make it right, to make it right

Show me the power God has made
We've only got one life to save
Oh Mother Nature, make it right
Track Name: The Last Time
The Last Time (I Sleep with You)

Gettin' me up, puttin' me down
No I don't want you around
Wastin' my time, tellin' me lies
You're always bringing me down

Rise and shine and face the light
Looks like another wasted night
Rise and shine and face the light, baby
That's the last time that I sleep with you

You make me crazy
Quite insane
Just another wasted night
I'm not to blame

Ooo baby, the hell ya put me through
Well I tell you baby, the hell with you
Track Name: The Whisper
The Whisper

No question now
I've lost my mind
I'm not the same man
My mind's not mine
My thoughts aren't mine sometimes
How did it start?
And when will it end?
Oh Lord please answer my prayers

The whisper
The whisper
The whisper - calling me

I awake from a dream
What's happening to me?
I could never hurt her... could I?
And what of the children?
Are they safe, safe from me?

I wake up
Alone in the basement corner
Drenched in blood
What did I do?
Where is my family?
What have I done?
NO!
Track Name: Midnight Rendezvous
Midnight Rendezvous

Call me pleasure dealer, nothin' I'd rather be
I'll get you anything, anything you please
You have to come to me 'cause I won't come to you
And if you cross me, I'll get you
Just tell me what you want
While begging, beggin' on your knees

Money for your pleasure, just for you
Or just skunky green if you choose
Just tell me what you want
Just have the green at the rendezvous

At the midnight rendezvous
